South Carolina senior Chloe Kitts to miss entire season with torn ACL
![](/<p>If South Carolina is looking to get back to its championship-winning ways during the 2025-26 season, they'll have to do it without one of their best players. ![](/<p><strong>Fifa World Cup qualifier: Republic of Ireland v Armenia</strong></p><p><strong>Venue:</strong> Aviva Stadium, Dublin <strong>Date:</strong> Tuesday, 14 October <strong>Kick-off: </strong>19:45 BST</p><p><strong>Coverage: </strong>Live text commentary on BBC Sport website</p><p><strong>Manager Heimir Hallgrimsson says "the result is the only thing that matters" before the Republic of Ireland's crucial World Cup qualifier against Armenia in Dublin on Tuesday night. </strong></p><p>Hallgrimsson's side are bottom of Group F after defeats away by Tuesday's opponents and Portugal, with their solitary point coming in a home 2-2 draw with Hungary in September.</p><p>His team have the chance for redemption against Armenia, and they need to win to keep alive their slim hopes of reaching the World Cup.</p><p>"I believe in this team and I think this team has everything to qualify for the World Cup," Hallgrimsson said. </p><p>"We are not favourites in the group at the moment but a win would change that, and I believe we are going to do that.</p><p>"The result is the only thing that matters - however we do it. This is a result game, 100%." </p><p>The Icelander has emphasised the importance of a fast start in front of the home crowd, taking the positives from an ultimately crushing defeat in Lisbon on Saturday.</p><p>After holding Portugal for the majority of the match, Ruben Neves eventually broke their defensive rear-guard with a 91st minute winner, with Hallgrimsson fully aware he will need to change his tactics for Tuesday's visit of Armenia.</p><p>"We knew once Portugal didn't score they would open up, they would be frustrated. And you saw that in their body language, they got more and more frustrated," Hallgrimsson continued. </p><p>"Now we flip that psychology. We need to win the game and we cannot lose our focus in the beginning because we know the fact that we need to win the game, we need to be smart, have game management throughout the game.</p><p>"The goal can come in the 91st minute like in Portugal, but just keep on going. Don't go individual, stay collective both in attack and in defence."</p><p>Hallgrimsson led his native Iceland to the 2018 World Cup finals, and despite the Republic of Ireland's poor start to the campaign he believes that one victory can transform their chances of reaching the tournament next summer.</p><p>"We know that Armenia are a very good team, so never, ever anyone here will underestimate Armenia. I think we realise it's going to be a big pressure on us tomorrow (Tuesday). </p><p>"We just need to accept that. That reality is there is going to be a pressure on us to win the game. But I'm again saying it doesn't need to happen first minute. </p><p>"We need to be smart against this team. If we're not smart, they can punish us, like they did in Armenia."</p>)
