UC Davis-Mercer game declared a no contest after long weather delay
The FCS Kickoff game between UC Davis and Mercer was declared a no contest after a weather delay of about 1 1/2 hours Saturday night. UC Davis, ranked No. 7 in the FCS coaches poll, had a 23-17 lead over No. 11 Mercer when play was stopped with about 7 1/2 minutes left. “Tonight’s 11th Annual FCS Kickoff has been declared a `No Contest' due to rain and intermittent lightning that has continued to move through central Alabama," Mercer said on social media.

Tucker hits 2 homers and drives in 5 as Cubs blow out Angels 12-1
Kyle Tucker homered twice and drove in five runs as the surging Chicago Cubs routed the Los Angeles Angels 12-1 on Saturday night. Reese McGuire added a grand slam and tied a career high with five RBIs to help the Cubs win for the seventh time in nine games. Cade Horton (8-4) gave up three hits over six scoreless innings and Ben Brown went the rest of the way for his first major league save.

Chris Mosley ran for a career-high 180 yards, the North Carolina Central defense did not allow a point in the second half, and the Eagles defeated Southern 31-14 on Saturday night in the season-opening MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff. Mosley, a senior who had never had more than 10 carries in a game, had 17 carries and his 180 yards included a 49-yard touchdown run that helped North Carolina Central of the MEAC take a 17-14 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the Eagles cashed in on a shanked punt and drove 34 yards culminating in a short Walker Harris touchdown pass to Kyle Morgan for a 24-14 lead.

Sam Surridge, Hany Mukhtar both score twice in first half to lead Nashville over Orlando City 5-1
Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar both had two goals by halftime to help Nashville SC breeze to a 5-1 victory over Orlando City on Saturday night. Surridge used an assist from Mukhtar — his 10th — to score in the 3rd minute and give Nashville (15-8-5) the lead. Mukhtar took a pass from defender Josh Bauer and scored to give Nashville a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute.
